MINDEN, Nev. -- Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goalie best known for having his jugular vein slashed by a skate in a 1989 game with Buffalo, is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the chin with a rifle.

Wife Christy told sheriff's deputies that the .22-caliber rifle discharged after her husband placed the butt on the ground between his legs. He had been shooting rabbits.

The 47-year-old former player, now a goalie coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets, was flown by helicopter to a Reno hospital for treatment Tuesday.

"Our concern is with Clint and his well-being," the Blue Jackets said Thursday. "We are optimistic that he will have a full recovery very soon."

I don't like your affirmation, but, Avery is not intelligent.

heh, saying so only means you doesn't understand the kind of player he is and what he does for a team. He's playing silly because it disturbs the opponents and he just doesn't od it anyways, he knws how to do it, when to do it and whom to provoke. That's intelligent imo.

Same thing here... you can say that he unfairly distracted Marty Brodeur last playoffs, but the truth is that he scored the game-winning goal that night, and after that, Brodeur was shaky. And that led to elimination...

Pepe Lemieux was like that too... when he checked Draper in the boards, he was hated like hell. But how Colorado won the Cup that year? Because of that check: it put Detroit out of their game plan. Detroit was way too strong for Colorado, but Pepe found a way to kick them out of their own game, and led them to unforgiving doom

Barnaby was that type of player too, and I would take him on my team everytime... for the same reasons that he can change the momentum of the game simply by distracting the opposition

And don't tell me that Dale Hunter was an angel on the ice...

Avery looks stupid doing the things that he does so well, but who cares how it looks as long as it's effective.

The problem with Avery, is that he becomes a distraction... for his own team, and that is where it comes into play

Distracting the other team, but your own?

I think Tom Renney was the kind of coach who could handle such a guy like Avery, true you need someone who'll be able to make him focus his energy where it needs to be.

Avery really knows how to be hated by his opponents.
But yeah i'd take him on my team anytime too.
